Government Budget Balancing

George Osbourne has today stated that unprotected government sectors will have to prepare to lose between 25%-40% of their annual budget, in order to reduce the deficit and bring Britain back into the black by 2020.
In principle I believe this to be a good thing, however the categorising of what a protected sector is, is baffling to me. Health (the NHS), Defence, and schools are all protected, and so they should be. However, Overseas Aid is also protected from these budgetary cuts.
Does anyone know why giving our tax money away to other countries is given priorities over things such as emergency services, care of the elderly, etc?
Are we so gripped with political correctness that we have to pay for it?

Fuck me P if we lose anymore we'll be doing work in the back of a Transit van... have to admit it's pretty scary at the moment.. losing years of experienced staff left right and centre and no replacements ... I'm in a team of 20... soo to be 17... and I'm the second youngest at the age of 48... it's completely fucked... however all the great contractors that come i and fuck everything up on their £1000 per day seem to be doing OK... however they are sorted by a different Budget so don't matter.. even though you lot are still paying for them all..

'Budget balancing' is a load of shit. This is an ideological cull on public services and the public is me and you, the people who want their bins emptied and roads cleaned.
There's always a cheaper way of doing stuff though which is why they don't really want a stop to immigration. Privatise, employ immigrants who send the money (and tax credits) to a place where it's worth more money like Latvia and skim the rest off.
It benefits the very few and we continue in our race to the bottom.

I don't even know where to begin with this but I'll make a start.
We are borrowing BILLIONS a year.
We cannot afford to continue to spend more than we can afford.
We are reducing tax credits
We are saying to the EU we want a 4 year wait before immigrants get benefits or we are leaving the EU.
